The Manasquan Municipal Court has jurisdiction over all traffic matters that occur within the boundary of the Manasquan, as well as all disorderly person’s offenses and City ordinance violations. It has all the functions, powers, duties and jurisdictions conferred upon municipal courts by the provisions of N.J.S.A 2A:8-1.
The Manasquan Municipal Court Administrator is responsible for:
- Carrying out the rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to the operation of the Court.
- Interviewing and speaking to prospective complainants and receiving complaints and dispensing information relating to Court matters.
- Maintaining the financial records of the Court and entering them in the ATS/ACS; arranging trial calendars; signing Court documents; and preparing and issuing warrants with sufficiency and equity; and receiving and accounting for fines and costs.
Private citizens can pursue their own complaints. A police complaint is pursued by the Municipal Prosecutor. The Violations Bureau is where fines are paid in person or through the mail. If the charge(s) on your summons and complaint can be taken care of without a Court appearance, the summons should be marked with the amount of the fine listed. These are mostly traffic offenses. Certain traffic offenses are not payable and the defendant must appear in Court. If you pay by mail, you must sign the front of the ticket indicating you are pleading guilty to the charge(s). Please make checks payable to the Manasquan Municipal Court.
Manasquan Municipal Court proceedings are governed by municipal ordinances, court rules and State statutes. Court employees are not allowed to give legal advice, but will be happy to answer procedural questions.

INFORMATION ON TRAFFIC SUMMONSES:
Once a traffic summons is issued and if you plan to plead not guilty and have a trial, you must notify the Court Administrator of your attention at least seven (7) days prior to your scheduled court date. If you fail to notify the Court Administrator it may be necessary for you to make 2 court appearances.
Only summonses with a checked court appearance date will be listed on the court agenda. Defendants who have a summons that does not require a court appearance, but would like to appear must follow the above procedure.
If payment is made by mail, do not send cash, but send a check or money order payable to Manasquan Court -201 E Main Street. Payment is due on or before the date listed on the bottom of the summons. If payment is received after that date, you may be assessed a late fee.
A receipt will be sent only if a payment is accompanied by a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
If you fail to appear in response to a summons or to pay the prescribed penalty, additional penalties may result. A warrant may be issued for your arrest and your driving privileges in New Jersey may be revoked.
If you have been charged with a parking offense, your failure to appear or pay the prescribed penalty shall be considered an admission of liability and a default judgment may be entered against the owner of the vehicle. |
